Ararat Arts Centre Redevelopment

ITE had the privilege of working alongside consultants Richard Stuart, architects Williams Boag and builder Nicholson Constructions to redevelop the existing heritage Ararat Town Hall Arts Centre, built in 1898. The project spanned over a year and included an array of theatre Fly System elements and motorized rolling truss systems, Stage Drapes, Audio Visual system, and complete Stage Lighting package.

The project was funded by all tiers of Government and was designed to attract major exhibitions and performers to the region, helping to build the economy and create jobs within the area.

ITE’s Fly System scope included the demolition of the existing rolling gantry structure which was in desperate need for upgrade. Not only was a new system installed but an array of flexible rigging elements were included such as a motorized house curtain system, 5 rolling box trusses each complete with independently flown ITE LX Ultra Lighting Bars and cable management systems. The new design allows complete user flexibility as trusses can be moved up and down stage and can also be flown in and out all with a push of a button. Control of all mechanical systems are integrated into a single, easy to use control panel.

A full drapes package was also installed including velvet house curtain, black wool borders, black wool leg pairs, black wool traveller drapes, a filled cloth cyclorama. Additionally, Lighting Ladders were installed in the wings and an array of scenery battens to the stage fly system and to the front of house walls.

The AV system consisted of a complete AV cabling and TP layout throughout the stage and adjoining areas, stage managers system, an intercom system, show relay system, CCTV Cameras, Presentation Control System and motorized projection screen, an array of stage lighting luminaires, a technical data network, and complete state-of-the-art sound system.

Alongside the Counterweight System installation, ITE also manufactured and delivered an motorized Orchestra Lift platform structure with a 7.5KPa floor rating and associated control system and safety integration assemblies and chair rostra’s.
